4th AsiaEngage Regional Conference

Following on the success of the first three conference and the benefits that it brings to the university-community-industry engaged practitioners in Asia and beyond, the AUN USR&S Secretariat at UKM will be organising the 4th AsiaEngage Regional Conference in Thailand this November. UKM is pleased to collaborate with Chiang Mai University (CMU), a university member of the AUN USR&S thematic network, to organise the conference. CMU will also bring along two other universities in Thailand on board to host the conference from 26 – 28 November in Thailand.

The theme for this year’s regional conference is “Achieving SDGs in Asia: Key Challenges for University-Community Engagement.” The focus of the conference will be on the following five subthemes, which have been identified at the 6th AUN USR&S Steering Committee Meeting on 17 December 2017 in UKM Bangi, Malaysia, as essential considerations for driving forward meaningful and productive engagement efforts of higher education institutions:

• University – Civil Society Engagement
• University – Community Engagement
• University – International Agency Engagement

A PSU Team presented MSIE4.0 to the Federation of Thai Industries Songkhla Chapter

On May 21, 2018, the PSU team led by Dr. Thanate Ratanawilai attended a monthly meeting of the Federation of Thai Industries Songkhla Chapter (FTI-SK) at the Tonaoi Grand Hotel, Songkhla, Thailand. The team presented the concepts and work packages of the MSIE4.0 project to the committees and members of FTI-SK. Task 1.3, Assessing needs of industry and students, was also discussed during the meeting.

The presentation drew the interest of the southern industries to adapt Industry 4.0 for their companies and encouraged them to become MSIE4.0 partnerships. According to this fruitful discussion, some companies, in fact, have already implemented automation systems and are experiencing lack of skilled workers to maintain the systems. Besides the curriculum development, they expressed the interest of having short-course training for increasing advanced skills and essential knowledge of their current workers. Henceforth FTI-SK wishes the MSIE4.0 would accomplish and fulfill the graduated students with Industry 4.0 knowledge to make the southern industries sustainable development.

MSIE4.0 Kick-Off Meeting

This first gathering aimed to present the MSIE4.0-CBHE Project, its objectives and main activities. It also gave the opportunity to the partners to get to know each other, to understand the exact role they have within the project and ensure a good ownership.

The meeting, that brought together more than 50 participants from 4 different countries, included presentations of partners and expectations, the state of play regarding Southeast Asia mobility as well as break out groups on all Work packages . Prospective activities in the project, financial management issues and communication and dissemination issues were also covered during this event.

As a result the partners identified synergies, priorities and cooperation perspectives for each Working package and planned the next steps for partners.
