Chiang Mai University (CMU), founded in 1964, was the first institution of higher education in the north of Thailand, and was the first provincial university in our kingdom. Ever since, CMU has been focusing on providing higher education emphasizing on academic excellence, preparing graduates with high moral and ethical standards under the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, and supporting the national community with academic services. Besides, CMU has committed to preserve and nurture religious and cultural heritage, and to develop the resources of the unique natural environment of Northern Thailand. CMU has 35,532 students, 2,232 academic lecturers, and 11,440 staffs.

 

In term of research, CMU has been selected as one of Thai national research universities. CMU actively involves in launching innovative initiatives and development projects in various fields to further advance standards of teaching, learning and technology transfer for the social and economic development of the region and the country. CMU continues to expand its national and international collaborative research activities.

 

Department of Industrial Engineering (IE-CMU) has been a source providing capacity building to support industrial development in the Northern Thailand. IE-CMU has core competency in supply chain, logistics, production technology and system, quality management, and sustainable production.   IE-CMU has collaborations with EU university partners (e.g., a collaboration with University Lyon2-France and University of Sannio-Italy to develop the Systems for Quality Assurance in Research and Education called SQUARE project that was supported by Thailand-EC Cooperation Facility Grant). IE-CMU has also worked closely with industry, especially in the logistic and supply chain, and high precision industry sector of Hard disk drive.  IE-CMU has supported many leading companies in implementing several production system improvement especially using simulation and IT-based monitoring system.
